Sammy and Dia interlude

Mun!Note: Because we needed the happy gosh darn it!

Dia laughed as she pushed her baby girl on the swings. "Higher!" Sammy giggled, "Higher, Mama!" Dia grinned widely, "Go any higher and you'll hit the moon, silly." She stepped back to watch the look on her baby girl's face. Sammy had Max's smile, that infectious charming grin that she loved so much. "Yeah!" Sammy enthused, bouncing slightly in the seat and making herself swing a little crookedly. Dia stepped in to straighten it out and pushed the swing again. "But then what am I going to tell Daddy when he comes home tonight and wants to see his princess Sammy?" Dia asked with a mock solemn tone of voice.

Sammy considered this for a moment, the swing slowing slightly. "Daddy?" she asked her mama hopefully. Dia nodded, "Daddy's coming home tonight. He should be home for dinner and tucking in." She could see her daughter processing all of this, the look she got when she was concentrating on something was adorable.

"YAY!" Sammy yelled happily once she had thought everything through her way. "Want down, Mama! Down down down!" Dia stopped the swing and let Sammy out, balancing her on one hip. "Now what, hmm? Snacktime or Naptime?" She asked the three year old who was hiding a yawn.

"Mama fight with Grandpa?" Sammy asked hopefully. Dia shook her head once, hiding a smile. Of course her and Max's child would find it amusing to watch her mother and grandfather spar. "Maybe later, sweetheart. Grandpa's at a meeting right now."

Sammy made a frowny face and laid her head on her mother's shoulder, the tip of her thumb in her mouth. "Meetings bad, Mama." Dia bit her lip to keep from laughing out loud. "Grandpa thinks so too, baby girl." She replied as she walked back towards the house. Sammy exhaled deeply, her small body relaxing into her mother's as the motion started to lull her to sleep.

Just prompts: quote

My home is not a place, it is people. -Lois McMaster Bujold

"Just give us what we want to know, and we'll let you go." The first masked man said as he moved to stand in front of her chair again. She glared at him, tugging at the ropes around her wrists and ankles. "We just want to know where the object is." The other one commented from behind her, casually touching her cheek. "You wouldn't want us to go in and find it ourselves, would you?" The other one smiled nastily, "We're not in the habit of leaving traces behind. Tell us where it is and we won't burn the place down." She shook her head once and continued to say nothing. She didn't know what they were talking about or where it was. They were idiots to believe that the threat of burning her house would get her to talk. As much as she cared for it, it was a place. It could be rebuilt. Her family, the people she deeply cared for were all safe. Her home was in them, not the physical place she lived. Home was Max's arms around her. Dad, Mom, Stephen, Sol, Aunt Maggie and Uncle Justin...they was also home.

The longer she said nothing, hopefully the longer it gave people time to find her. If these two truly knew that she had no idea what they were talking about, she had a sneaking suspicion, she'd wind up floating in the nearest river.

She knew she couldn't hold out indefinitely, but maybe, just maybe she could hold out long enough. They'd come for her, they would. Hopefully it'd be soon. Before the two kidnappers decided to get creative. Before she caved.

She flexed her wrist slightly, trying again to see if there was any slack in the ropes that she could manipulate.

She wanted to go home.

Lazy morning

She slowly woke up, the sun shining on her face and the warmth of two arms around her. Max, she smiled sleepily. She raised her head slightly to check the time before she realized it was a weekend and neither of them had any plans for the day. She contemplated briefly getting up before deciding that she really didn't want to and that it was so nice and warm right here that getting out of bed and having the initial shock of not having that warmth was not something she was after now. She did however manage to slowly and carefully turn around so that she was now facing Max.

Max, her husband, lover, friend...she loved watching him while he was sleeping. There was this absolutely adorable look on his face when he was sleeping. Relaxed, peaceful, boyish, she smiled softly as she brushed some hair out of his face. She loved him so much, her hero. A knight in jeans and a t-shirt.

She stayed like that for a while, just sort of watching him sleep and snuggling in his arms.

Life was just about perfect right here.

For Max

Falling in Love by Falling Up.

You are my one true love
You are the voice that is so sweet
In everything I do, you bring the best out of me
You are my wings to fly
You are the wind beneath them
I miss you every night, when I close my eyes
You put your feelings down
You stopped your tears, you brought me love
You held onto my heart
You held with hope to have me near
Sometimes I close my eyes
Sometimes I let my hunger rise
I think of all you are, you are the love of my life

CHORUS
All of my dreams and my passions are in your hands

You reached me in my need
Your rhythm flows under my skin
I need you desperately
A sweet healing that will begin
You are my one true love
You are the voice that is so sweet
In everything I do, you bring the best out of me
My everything is you
The very motions that I move
And everything with richness
The richness of the peace you bring

Just Prompts: Lay All Your Love On Me

It was like shooting a sitting duck
A little smalltalk, a smile and baby I was stuck
I still don't know what you've done with me
A grown-up woman should never fall so easily
I feel a kind of fear
When I don't have you near
Unsatisfied, I skip my pride
I beg you dear...

Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on me

Dia loved to dance. She especially loved salsa clubs, the music, the atmosphere, all of it.

This club, Caliente, happened to be one of her favorites. She had a new friend with her as well. She grinned over at her, "You're right, Becky, this will be fun."

Drabble for Max

He didn't call.

He'd made it back safely and he hadn't called to let her know that he was alright and that the job had gone off well. So she'd been anxiously waiting at home for the call and getting more and more nervous by the minute. She'd finally called the wife of his mates and she'd reassured that they had come home and that Max had told his mates he was heading straight home.

So she picked up her things and headed over to his apartment. She found him there completely dead to the world asleep. She quickly made herself comfortable in his kitchen as she quickly made him something to eat and left it with a note in his fridge.

She couldn't stop herself from lightly caressing his face in his sleep once before she left. She'd see him later.

Chat with Mother

Dia: Mother

Muriel: Claudia

Dia: What's this about, mother?

Muriel:I merely called to ask if you wanted to attend the bridge club meeting later this week.

Dia: I might be busy. Why?

Muriel: Why what?

Dia: Why the invitation NOW, Mother?

Muriel: Oh, well Mrs. Case has her godson visiting. I hear he's quite a catch. Very big with the West Coast crowd.

Dia: I really do think I have something that day, Mother.

Muriel: *sighs* Never mind then, I just...never mind.

Dia: What Mother? What were you going to say?

Muriel: When are you going to settle down, Claudia Susan? You aren't getting any younger.

Dia: Thank you, Mother. I'm not doing this to you on purpose, I just don't want to get married at the moment. Why is that so hard to believe?

Muriel: You're 30! Being unmarried and having a bit of fun, going to school is a young person's thing. You need to grow up and starting taking a bit more responsibility for yourself.

Dia: *blinks* I'm 27 and excuse me?

Muriel: Barry is dead and you just need to move on, Claudia Susan. I know you loved him but...he's gone. Get over him and find someone else.

Dia: *blinks and is stunned* Mother, I'm...i'm over Barry. I still don't want to get married right now. I want to finish my degree and I'm ever so sorry that i'm too busy working for a living so I can finish school and pay off my loans. I'm sorry that you find that irresponsible. I personally don't.

Muriel: Claudia Susan! Watch your tone!

Dia: *breathes deeply* Goodbye Mother.

Muriel: Don't you ha- *dialtone*

Just prompts: Song

You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you

Dia really loved waking up next to him. She wasn't quite sure why. Max should be everything that a good little girl runs away from, but she found herself irresistibly drawn to him. To his charming grin and his snarky comments and the absolute lovely way he made her body sing. He was exactly the type of boy that her mother would hate. She could hear the lecture now.
"Claudia Susan Gates-Jones, how dare you do this to me, to your father and the family...how dare you shame us so?"

She rubbed a hand across her face tiredly. There was a reason that she communicated mostly with Sam these days. The fight with her mother had reached epic proportions and they'd stopped speaking to each other.

Her mother had been against her going to school, living on her own, not being the perfect little socialite and making a brilliant match and having two children and being an excellent member of society. Her almost -marriage to Barry had been the only thing she'd done right according to her, and look how that turned out, Dia mused. She looked back down at the sleeping man beside her. So different from Barry, Max was a million times over the man Barry hadn't been. Not that her mother would ever see that.

She'd never see how happy Max made her daughter or how they kinda completed each other in a weird way. How the day just seemed better when he was with her.

Sam would get it. He'd grumble and he'd growl, but he'd get it. Simon...her biological Dad would get it. He'd also grumble and growl and posture, but he wanted her to be happy. Most of all that's what he wanted, no matter who with. Carolina...Mom got it more than Dad did (being the more persceptive one sometimes). All of them understood and were willing to let her be herself, willing to give Max a chance.

Mother...would never get it. And that hurt most days. Dia laid back down, curling herself around Max's body. Maybe one day, Mother'd come around.

Maybe.

Dia was excited, she'd was getting ready to start the next round of testing for the magical Kevlar vests. She had some new colleagues joining her as well. She felt very confident about these next tests. The formula was almost perfect.

She puttered around, waiting for everyone to arrive.

Just Prompts: Bride and Groom

Pic

This picture reminds me a lot of my mom, Muriel and my dads. That bride is SO my mother. Simon, my biological dad, met Mom at a hotel in Paris. It was week long fling where Mom "passionately fell in love" and then realised she'd tried to play in the big leagues and failed and oh look visible consequences. Grands was not best pleased with her, but she married Sam shortly after I was born.

Sam Jones is my stepfather, he also incidentally delivered me. Grands was lecturing in Egypt and he'd made sure that Mom was with him as his "assistent." Mostly he just didn't want to let her out of his sight. Sam was an archeologist attending the convention there and he'd had some good conversations with Grands. Mom thought he was passing interesting - young good-looking archeologists were often hard to find.

Sam delivered me and told me later on, that he just fell in love with my little nose and my fingers and toes, that he said yes when Mom asked him to marry her just so that I'd be his daughter.

Grands liked Sam a lot.

Simon, my biological dad was only in it for a bit of fun. That's what he had agreed to, Mom thought he'd sleep with her and immediately sweep her off her feet and marry her. She wanted the power and prestige that came with marrying important men. She honestly believed he'd find her shortly, that she'd been too irresistible, that he would come running back.

Her mistake.

So yeah. This is what came to mind after seeing the picture.

This and my almost marriage to Barry, but i'm not going there.
